White Rhino
Last year was one of our best years yet incoming wise.. margins were WAY down. This year, I'm bidding on stuff just to keep the guys employed at sometimes little to NO profit. Business is out there for what we do, but what is WEIRD is everybody is driving the bottom dollar to 0. I used to say were in a race to zero (0 profit) well were there....... manufactures need to lower there prices, there profits haven't dropped enough yet I guess. Its a sustaining race now, if you can sustain this, then in my mind you will start to make it again... Just if you can find enough to sustain these trying times..... I have always believed that if your business can survive these times, you wil be sitting in a great position when everything comes back around that those who survived will be standing on top. I learned a lot of hard lessons during these trying times. I hope to use what I have learned some day soon. Till then I just hope that I can work as much as I can. OGP
The buying and selling of bank REPOS is good right now. It sucks for the people that got carried away in the good times. Now that the tuff times are here, their toys are going bye bye.

Please let us know when the tv show airs, so we can all tune in. As for business, well...No busyness here. We have 5 trucks, 21 trailers ranging from end dumps to tankers to lowbeds to box vans, a bobcat, and two front end loaders; and we have about 6 hrs. of work a day to share between them all. We've had to lay off drivers, and are down to 3 employees, counting myself. My company has been the victim of numerous bankruptcies on the part of multiple debtors. On a happier note, I've completed payment #4 of 48 on the funco
ltr450rider
I moved to Santa Barbara area last november for what I thought was going to be a crane operating job. Instead I was trying my hardest to learn how to weld and doing an OK job at it, showed up everyday to work, never left early, even stayed late to practice my welding. Never once operated the crane. I was laid off in March. Luckily I had picked up a 2nd job at a local bike shop (had 5 years experience) and business has really picked up, made two $1200 sales the past 2 days plus lots of repairs. I'm very happy the owner gave me a chance and picked me up full time and hopefully a small raise to make my rent. Looks like I will be able to keep living in this beautiful area. It's been 75, sunny, clear and I can hear the waves crashing from my apartment. I cant leave now.
Jakster884
I guess I am in a Made in the USA only business. ( Aerospace ) Until it is subcontracted out of the country I have a pretty stable Business. ( www.skymfg.net) My company produces Bolts for the Military and Commercial Airplanes. We had our best year in 2009 and we forecast a 20% increase for 2010. Business has been increasing the last three months and we have actually hired 6 new employees to make it a total of 65. I feel myself and family are very lucky and I feel blessed with the good in this period when many people are hurting.

cycoguy
I've worked at a well established refinery for a little over a year now. 12 hours a day is my normal shift, and i've worked up to a 21 hour shift. We have tons of projects going on and are expanding the refinery like crazy. We also just got a few more new contracts to add to our normal workings. Gonna be a busy busy summer. TbonesMalones
They say many millionaires are born during recessions, you have to find new ways to create opportunites for yourself, and if you own a business increase your marketing budget.
