  1. I'm actually in Saugus, which is right next to Canyon Country. Basically the fire is from my side of town over to Canyon Country. I can see flames and such from my driveway. It has been pretty wild today with the wind and the fires. Between unloading my MH from the weekend and making sure family members are OK, it's been a busy day. My wife's Uncle, Aunt, and cousins were evacuated from their home today and still have not been allowed to return. I've been listening to my scanner all day and the fire and police are sure earning their money today. At 11:00 pm tonight I heard on the scanner that the day shift guys can go home, but have to be back at 6 am. They were held over from the day shift today into tonight. My family and me are OK, the fire is close, but not THAT close............yet. Hopefully it won't get any closer. Thanks Derblank for the offer, that is mighty kind of you to do that....................
  2. I was in heaven in the virgin sand.....................................  :fro_smokin:
  3. Hey everybody................Well first, I'm a bad picture taker, I have none. Anyway, my group got there Thursday afternoon and it was flawless. We did a ride before it got dark and boy was it heaven for me. Not being there since March. Thursday night was awesome, especially since someone kept giving me booze to drink. :peek: Friday was also an awesome day as far as the weather goes as well as the sand. We had three dune rides, and we ran into SandRiderGP at the South Pole which was cool meeting him..... Friday night was all good untill about 12am, then the wind started and didn't let up. Saturday morning it was real windy and my wife had just had it with the wind. She got absolutely NO sleep that night. Anyway, we split on Saturday around 1:30pm so I unfortunately missed the little DDR meet up at the S. Pole...........sorry everybody. The drive home was an interesting one to say the least. Driving through a wind storm and backout conditions coming south on the 15 freeway heading towards L.A. :ahh: :ahh: But made it home safely which is always a good thing. I would still consider it an awesome weekend!!!! The road in is still a washboard which I don't mind. It served it's purpose.............NO dust cloud following me, and the river crossing was in great condition as well......... Everyone have a safe trip out there next weekend!!!!!!!
  4. Just wondering what you good people check as far as weather sites when heading to Dumont? Which ones are usually the closest to the actual weather there or is it just a shot in the dark no matter what you look at?? Thanks....................
  5. I'm heading out this Thursday morning and will be there until Sunday morning What do you think about Saturday @ 2pm for the south pole????
  6. Thanks a bunch guys! The batteries are less than 8 months old. Like I said before, I at least can't remember ever hearing a battery do that. They are 4 deep cycle 6v batteries and they are Interstate Batt.'s. I think because of time constraints I'm going to let it roll and see what happens. I'm headed for Dumont this weekend so we'll see. If anyone has anymore to add, please do so......................and thanks!!!!!!
  7. Hey everybody.............Just wanted to see what everyone else does. I was wondering how long do you charge your coach batteries before a trip to Dumont? Do you leave your MH or TH plugged in all the time or do you only plug it in for a little bit?? I usually plug my MH in all the time and then check the water level in the batteries once a month. I have 4-6v batteries for my coach with a Xantrex Inverter. How long does it take for 6v batt.'s to be fully charged?? Also, can you over fill the cells with water?? Tonight while loading stuff I was hearing one of the batt.'s bubbling or perkulating like a coffe maker, is this normal for batt.'s that haven't been charged for a while?? I was only one of the batt.'s that I heard though. I've never had an issue before and maybe I'm over-thinking it and stressing myself out for no reason, but I don't wanna get caught with no heat in the MH this trip for my wife and my daughter. Thanks in advance..................... PS.they are brand new Interstate batteries I installed earlier this year.
  8. The camping area is large and flat. Once you get past the little creek and up onto the what we call the flats, then it is pick a spot that is open. There are some soft areas that you need to be careful off, but for the most part it's not that bad. Remember, the closer you get to the dunes, the softer it gets. A small bit of advice though, try not to stop until you've found your spot to camp, and when you make turns, make them wide. Ultimately, no matter how much advice you get from the good peeps of DDR, you never truely know until you get there. But believe me, it will be a good time!!!! Your truck should do just fine.
  9. So very sorry to hear of your loss.............my thoughts are with you and your family in this time of sorrow........................Take care!!!
  10. I'm thinking about the weekend after T-day which would run into the first weekend in Dec.
  11. I camped there once and my butt did hurt........ :beer_bang: I learned my lesson!!!! :beer_bang:
  12. :beer_bang: :beer_bang: ...............I'll drink to that!!!!
  13. Well if they do come out with me it will more than likely be only for about a day and a half. I told them there is plenty of areas to ride w/o paddles. It's just to check the place out to see if they like it or not. They are used to places like California City. So I'm thinking if they stay on the hard pack stuff, they should be OK. Thanks for the feedback guys.........................
  14. A couple of dirt bikes with some very avg. riders who don't have a lot of experience and have never been around sand.
  15. Usually the TH trailers come with at least a 100 gallon fresh water tank. The usual sizes for the black water and greay water, is 45/40 or 40/50............somewhere in that range. Congrat's on the new trailer.................
  16. I've got some friends going out with me for the first time. They don't have paddles and I told them not to buy any until they decided if they like Dumont or not. The thing is, I don't know where people can ride out there without paddles, I just have no idea where that is. I know up the canyon, and the sperry wash trail, but that's all I do know. Is there anywhere else?? Can they get from Big D to Little D without paddles?? Just wondering and any info is greatly appreciated..................... :fro_smokin:
  17. Glad everything is OK Bob. Hoping for a speedy recovery by your son to dune on.........................
  18. Hey Capt. Super glad to hear that everything worked out for you and you child. That just goes to show that there are still good people left in the world and ..........THAT ROCKS!!!!!
  19. Regardless of the paystation deal, or the bench racing deals in this thread, I'm just glad you all had a good weekend and that nobody got hurt. After reading all this about the weekend makes me JONES for my trip on Oct. 18th..............Can't Wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :fro_smokin:
  20. I think BigRed needs to do a "Live from Dumont" with his computer since some of us couldn't be there this weekend. Live updates, now that would be cool.................
  21. Do you mean TH trailers or any kind of trailer? I have an open trailer for the rail and was just wondering. Thanks
  22. I think that was said out of frustration..... It is bad to see the parents do that. I helped coach my younger brothers pop-warner football team back in the late 80's and saw that type of parent back then. It used to really tick me off. It's like, let the kid be a kid and play and have fun. It's more than just football, baseball, basketball, or anything else. It's about team work and having a good time. Fact of the matter is that if your kid get's it and excells at it, then great. But if not, don't come down too hard on the kid for crying out loud My brother played 4yrs. pop-warner, 4yrs. High school, and 2 yrs. Jr. college. He started both ways virtually the entire time. But did he make it to the pro's?? No he didn't, and that was fine with his family. It's a shame that some parents are like that. My :rant_on: will stop now.................
  23. Just a quick question...........did they make the river crossing any longer, or did they just match up to the existing concrete?
  24. So was the pad still there and passable by a MH? I'm guessing the dirt around the slab was eroded away?? Just wondering in case we have rain in October. I've never been in or out through Little D. Thanks............... :fro_smokin:
  25. Just thought I'd start another thread for those of us that aren't going to make the season kick-off or Holloween. Personally, I'll be out there October 18th - 21st with a group of friends. If anyone else is there maybe we can hook up and hang out. Put names to faces, that sort of thing........... :afro: :fro_smokin:
