  2. It was my go pro and Adam just loaded and edited the video. The gopro was still working and was used all weekend, the music was still playing and there was a lot of "holy sh*t what happened" conversation. I still think that if that witch's eye hadn't been there the car would have come right back over the edge. It was a rolled top not a razor so it was a little deceiving as to where the top was at as I came into the turn and just caught a witch at the wrong time wrong place. Time for new sheet metal and paint.
  3. Well I am older than most on this site so I can tell you that I got bit by the sand bug in 1975. Other than a very few years I have always been at the dunes.I started with a CJ5 and a tent and moved up as I could. Now days I have a great wife who has a great job and allows me to spend doe on fuel, repairs and thank god insurance:). I only have the motorhome financed and when I bought my current trailer I had a bigger one and traded down and paid cash for it. I have never financed a "toy" but the motorhome is financed and is also used as a write off for a second home (toyhaulers etc.also qualify for that also as interest paid out). My car was bought cash at the height of the market and the urge to do make changes has come and gone. I love my car, it saved my life and my passanger's life on friday and it does everything I have ever asked of it.If I had a "do-over" I would only change the engine type to a LS motor and I woud want a higher roll cage so I could wear a helmet. I have always worried that my head might hit the roll cage as I am not a small person and I just was concerned about belt stretch etc. Friday I found out that it is not an issue as I put the car on it's lid and side and it just left me hanging like a cockroach in my seat and my passanger whIo was on the down side was about half buried in sand but his wrist restraint did it's job and this was his first ride and is going to be a hell of a memory for the rest of his life. He is a good sport and I am so thankful that Alumicraft builds a strong car. He has some GO-Pro video that I am sure he will be posting that was taken from the camera on the roof facing backwards. It shows the crash.Any way back to the subject of money, I am a duner it's what I think about it's what I do for fun and if I am not at the dunes I am getting ready to go. Movies, out to eat in expensive resturants just don't happen. I am a lucky man who has a wife who not only supports my habit but understands it(most of the time) I can only advise you when it comesto buying toys is save your money buy used if you can and take your time to get not only what you need now but what you may grow into in the future. Terry
  4. Unique parking spot for the VW! I always wanted to visit that place in January. heard it is the shitz when it comes to seeing all things RV. How did the hook Up with Mike from Idaho work out? Terry
  5. "I have also had quite a few people say they were coming over to look at it and never show up. " And that surprises you? That's the standard answer these days!
  6. I know on my YFZ it was the pilot jet that was clogged even after we went through the whole thing. I have heard recently that with the new gasoline that even if you shut your fuel off and run em till they die it still leaves enough fuel in the bowl and jets to gum them up. Stabil is apparently the only way to prevent it other than routinely starting it every 10 days or so.
  7. If you have to go to Cummins for the part let me know and I will give you my Cummins power club member # and it saves you 10% ON ALL PARTS AND LABOR.
  8. Trust me I now there were no jobs created but was just trying to make a point about our great leader and his "change" policies. Or lack there-of!
  9. Well I agree with you Pete and i thought it was a complete waste of money and cutting away the mountain. I still believe it but the park seems to get a lot of use. Skate park is always busy and I must admit I have used the dog parks several times. Would I have preferred that they would have left it alone but at least it is getting used and I guess that can justify the means. You and I know that you can't or couldn't trail ride with quads or M/C anymore since the great "Dust Law" was adopted by Clark County so it doesn't really that the trails are groomed. I actually saw a family way up on the top of the hill the other day which i guarantee the little ones would have not made the walk or ride in the carriage without the groomed trails. But painting the rocks seems like a little overkill. Kinda like the iron horses etc on the freeways. It's just a road not a sightseeing tour for kripes sakeThat is a complete waste of taxpayer dollars. Or should we thank our illustrious leader for all the "jobs" it created? Terry
  10. Adam, I will introduce you to Garret my Grandson, He likes to ride and is a great ride leader but likes to find jumps and enjoys the dunes. He rides a YFZ 450. He is a good kid and will show you Dumont. I think you will enjoy riding with him. He will be there that weekend.
  11. How many can you ride at one time? Unless your bringing a guest one should surfice and if your bringing a guest that's ok too.
  12. We are going out the last weekend of jan. The 27-29th. Camping at our usual spot near #9. Weather forecast is looking good for that weekend also. Hope to see you then. Terry
  13. Pass is per Vehicle not quad/bike/sandcar etc. So a truck with a trailer s $30.00 A Truck is $30.00 a Motorhome is $30.00 etc.
  14. Alan, would love to have it for the Friends of Dumont Dunes events but I don't think I can get the board to approve more than $250.00 If that works for you, could probably donate the value for your taxes as we are a 501C charity. Let me know and i can get the process started. Terry
  15. Funny thing the more people that go out there the more trash! Go figure?
  16. Maybe this would work for you? http://lasvegas.craigslist.org/rvs/2798810090.html
  17. Johnny Walker RV on Boulder Hwy & Flamingo store./Carter powersports on Decatur or look on BarstowBLM's web site for other locations.
  18. Well I picked up the M/H today and let's just say that a few things need to be taken care of before I want to hit the road with it so i am staying home this weekend and finishing some final details up. sh*t happens but i want to know why I am always in the valley looking the wrong way?
  19. It was on a few weeks ago. Pawn stars overpaid for it and lost the clutch the first run up the hill. The kid had to tow him back to camp with a Polaris XP that he way overpaid for. It pretty looked much looked like a circle jerk.
  20. There are several RV rental services here in Las Vegas. They will not drive them out to Dumont but you could pick it up on your way but have to figure out how to get it back to Vegas if you are continuing on to Glamis. Might be a better idea to go to Glamis and then have someone come to Vegas and pick up the motorhome and back track 100 miles to Dumont? You can google RV rentals in LV for names and numbers. Hope that helps. If you let the board know what the days your going to be at Dumont you may be able to meet up with someone who is going to be there and get a guided tour of Dumont. it's always a good idea as Dumont can chew you up and spit you out if your not used to riding razorback type dunes. Better safe than sorry for the long drive home. Terry
  21. No need, I googled it. those RC cars are fun and fast but you can't tell me that it's the same as driving or riding. It is something else to a the dunes and I am all for it but it would never be the same to me. Just my humble opinion. But I will say that if you can stay with a raptor till 4th it's pretty impressive:) Terry
  22. I have no idea what an erevo is?
  23. Adam, from what I hear the new years weekend crowd was pretty small and I am expecting it to tbe the same MLK weekend. Winds are supposed to blow this weekend so it should smooth them out just in time for us to destroy them again. I have cell cervice at Dumont and have it near me most of the time except when I am on a run then it is in a ziplock tucked away to protect it from that mean old sand. If you don't have my cell # PM me and I will get it to you. I guarantee an air bed inside a trailer will be way more comfy tham the back of your truck(been there done that!) Plus you can have access to a shower and the whole M/H for everything else. My bet is MLK weekend is going to be great and I am going come hell or highwater, well unless the M/H isn't done. But I was there today with the final parts delivery and they want it out of there as bad as I want it back. Let me know? Terry

    Trails

There really are no open trails in the general Dumont area except the Sperry wash trail which is 5.3 miles long and legally ends at the old mine. If you choose to go down or alongside the paved county road you leave yourself open to citations. Also if you travel down the dirt road to the date ranch you face the same issue. The owner of the date ranch is an anti OHV business and only takes your money to use it against you and the access we have left. There is a nice traik/road all around the big dunes that is fun although not that challenging by any means. You can also ride along the Salt lick mounains (outside the barrier notices) to the old mine out at the little dunes. If you have kids or like history this is a great ride then walk up to the mines. There is a lot of history there from old military & settlers/miners and indian fights to Charlie Manson and his girls hiding out there. There is good signage and old buildings and the mine shafts are safe and closed but you can really see what it must have been like back in the day. To get back to China Ranch I would polietly ask that you boycott that business, It is a sham for eco terroists and their blind flock. Terry
