We had to cancel our planned Idaho trip this summer when my fuel budget doubled. Maybe next year... I dunno. But the tradeoff I had to make was, one trip to St. Anthony's or four trips to Glamis/Dumont. No-brainer there, at least for me.

I don't see us getting out of playing in the dirt and sand, we all love it waaaaay too much. But we will have to watch the budget a little closer.

once you go there you wont say that....

I would trade 6-8 trips to Dumont or Glamis for a trip to St Anthony's.

But its harder to get a week or more off at work.

I don't seeing any big changes for us, we'll still make it out to Dumont at least once a month, maybe twice. If we do cut back and only make one trip a month, I'll make my dune trips longer, spend at least five to six days out there each trip.

But our Lake Mead trips will be cut down some. Filling up the boat three days in a row cost more than a week long trip to Dumont. :barf:

Not much change cut back on some utah trips this summer. We usually hit duckcreek 4 or 5 times a summer not this year just once or twice . Then take some cali trips in the mini van ( way better gas milage). As for as Dumont it's to close for us not to go. Definately plan on more trips this year than last. :barf:

what about the economy? i can't get time off for nothing. i've made only one race this year because the amount of work is so much, it prohibits me from having any leisure time virtually. i missed the whole dune season because i had to work 90+ hours a week to finish building a casino.

if i miss any trips (and i can see that i'm going to already) it's because i don't have the free time.

I'll be going to Sand Mt. NV to get my sand fixes  . The 900 mile round trip to Dumont can cost almost a grand just in fuel to get there and back! :dope: Until the economy levels out, I'll be ridin the dirt areas nearby. MAYBE go to piss-mo :woo_hoo: . All the toys and the hauler are paid for :chev_bowtie: . The rail is the only toy that will collect the most dust :barf: . I may get some dirt tires for it and run it in the dirt as well :bs: . That would mean a different engine :bs: . As Clint said in Heartbreak Ridge, " Adapt and overcome". I plan to adapt and overcome. :thumb:

:bs: Jim has never been a mooch ever since I've known him. :dope:

Besides, if he gave $20 for their hospitality that would STILL be more than some dune groupies have pitched-in in the past! :barf:

I don't know......

Got an email today from a friend leaving for a 3,000 to 4,000 mile road trip next week. He thinks 4.50 a gallon fuel will be soon be known as the "good ole days" so he's going while he can.

We usually have the hauler in Duck Creek for the summer but so far its still here with weather and diesel prices. Now with a new grand daughter being born any day in Phoenix that changes things too.

Price of diesel changes the way we plan and think. Before they got stoopid I would have jumped in the cummins and headed down but now I am looking for cheap airplane tickets and might just stand out on Hwy 160 in Pahrump with my thumb out and a sign that says Phoenix.

It will reduce my trips, 2 tanks of gas in the truck, plus fuel for the toys, and not to mention the groceries have gone up too. its a $400 weekend and I have not even left the driveway yet.

I have read on many other sites about how the price of diesel & slow real estate market has really hit some duners hard. Sand toys that were once funded by home equity are now being sold by alot of people. Diesel prices are probably going to keep alot of people from being able to do as many trips. Etc etc. It's crazy how much stuff is for sale right now.

I can say that the price of diesel will make my trips more expensive, but if you look at it this way...the total extra cost of my dune trip will be about $35 more is all. :censored:

Luckily all my toys (bikes & rail) are paid for and I am fortunate enough to be in a field where it hasn't seen any major decline.

I'm just curious how much it has or will affect most on here for next season. I bet there will alot less people out there. What do ya think?

:censored:

I don't think I'll be making any less trips. I usually do at least one per month/ maybe two and fortunately it looks like that should stay the same for me next season.

It's not just diesel....it gas all together. It has been going up just like diesel has.

Well unfortunately for me, not sure ill be making it to the dunes at all next season. With the mortgage disaster I lost 2 jobs in a year. After 8 months finally found a county job, but im making 1/2 what I used to. I also have to work weekends now.

It really really sucks, cause being at the dunes is what I most look forward to. But with the economy being what it is, Im definately glad to have a job.

I do own my quad outright, but making pymts on the hauler. Hopefully ill be able to keep it with my financial situation. Day by day right now :freakin_nuts:

The hauler is the only thing I wish I was financing. It's a good tax right off for us. The toys are paid for....the truck and trailer aren't.

We are squeaking through the tough times ourselves. Thank God for promotions, and my merit increases have also outpaced the cost of living....so it's keeping our heads above water. The county isn't so bad once you work your way up.

I think we will make the same amount of trips next year...maybe more if we're lucky.

True, but I don't use that much regular gas. The bikes and rail sip it and the hauler generator doesn't use that much either. I'd say maybe 10-15 gallons total is what I use in a whole weekend. OK, so add another 10-15 bucks or so to that $35. :freakin_nuts:

too bad you are not in so cal, we have set over 100 commercial package units in the last 2 months due to theft. Stores go to turn them on and no cooling due to a missing coil... Set 8 last friday (with cages) and by mon all the new units were stripped... f-in theives :thumb: .. I'm looking forward to less peeps out in the dunes and looking for a deal on a slightly used rail...as always... :freakin_nuts:

My wife and I have talked about this in depth and came to the conclusion that we will continue to dune, but we are going to be a little more concious about our purchases, i.e food and stuff. The diesel, yes it's high, but in the big picture I may spend an extra $100 per trip, seeing that my truck is the only thing that consumes (or destroys) diesel. Her Yukon, although not the best on gas mileage, gets about 400 miles out of a tank with a fill up of $115.00.

The kids love the dunes, I love the dunes, my wife (now that her Rhino is done) loves the dunes. I will cut back on other things in order to off-set the prices of fuel and food.

Did I say I can't wait for October?

Be safe!
