  1. Except every example you made doesn't follow the CDC guidelines/ recommendations. As long as you don't go out in groups, you maintain your distance, wash your hands, etc there is no threat of spreading or contracting the virus. The whole point is to NOT let your guard down.

  2. 😂 That's exactly how it goes though. I post the info, then people ask the exact questions I posted the answers to. It's like I'm hosting the dumbest game of Jeopardy ever! Thanks bud.

  3. Thanks for this post. I'm the Aunt of Regan the 3yr old hit by the sandrail Saturday morning. First off I want to start with she survived this traumatic hit and run. She spent a day in PICU; needed surgery to repair her face that was literally split in half from her hair line to the middle of her nose. She also had several lacerations on her hand and another gash on her head as well as some internal bruising across her chest. She's been downgraded as of this morning. Now I want to get the word out.... we have been duning here at Dumont for 10yrs. We have always camped at the bottom of the1st finger and have cones and caution tape up. We usually don't allow the kids on the finger due to this exact fear... but this particular morning my brother in law brought his 3yr old twins up on the finger to play supervised at around 9am. Regan descended down the finger to dig in the sand; she was about 6 ft from the top where her dad and twin brother where when the sandrail came across the top of the finger then goosed it to the right around the Dad and twin brother eventually running over Regan. We believe she was hit dead on then tumbled under the sandrail which is when I looked up because I heard the screams from Regans Dad and then witnessed Regan being literally spit out of the back of the sandrail. We all went running and yelling towards her and the sandrail but the sandrail kept on going. The sandrail has still not been located. This event was so fast and traumatic no one can say exactly what the rail looked like or the exact flag! We do know it was a blue and white sandrail had a spoiler with a black flag w red writing. This is all we could put together as a description. There was also a passenger in the rail. Please if you have any leads please contact the sheriffs station or BLM rangers. We don't even know if the driver knows that they ran over a little girl or if it was a true hit and run. Stay safe and hope we can get some answers and/or justice and some peace. Thanks!

  4. I'm a road worker here in Nevada (Clark County) I was going to visit that small road shop in Shoeshone to see what the plan was. Now I don't have to! That's some serious road damage. Not enough road crews to fix quickly. We are still repairing road damage in Las Vegas and I don't think we were hit as hard as California was hit.

  6. I'm planning to finally take a step back at work and enjoy many mid week trips. No vendors, no law and plenty of social distancing due to our to being one of the few out there (hopefully). Hope the CDC guidelines do not effect D. Cheers!

  7. Thank you guys! @Crusty & @DuNe~Rydher What's even greater than the donations themselves is the comments on here and in everyone's memo on their donation. I'm feelin the love and appreciate everyone's kind words. Often times I wonder if many of the things I do with the site go unnoticed and they apparently do not. Thanks again guys.

  8. Kicked in some cash Pete, we appreciate you. Might want to throw up one of those goal charts, show us where you need to be, where your at, and what is left to meet your goal. Then we’d know how much to throw in. Nobody wants to leave you hanging Rob

  9. 45+ years ago my buggy was stuck in the small dunes. Being a Monday we were the last in our group at the dunes so my dad had no wheels to come look for me. After spending most of the day trying to get un stuck in a vw with a 40hp that looked like a jeep in 90+ temperature I gave up and started walking to the mine shack. I knew there was a little water there in a tiny spring. My dad walked up to the plateau looking for me when a buggy came by asking if he needed help. He told the guy I was missing so off they went looking for me. Being about 16 and over 90 degrees out I decided to go duning with no shirt or shoes, something I would regret walking to the mine shack. I found the water to nasty to drink but great to wash my face and cool down a bit. I finished walking to the shack (had a roof on it back then) and looked out the window at the small dunes. It wasn't long before I could see a buggy in the dunes. They drove right by my buggy but didn't see it, they then decided to check the mine shack and found me looking at them from the window. It was my dad, we went and pulled our buggy out with this guys sandrail and back to camp where I drank anything and everything I could find. My dad sold the jeep looking buggy and the next trip to Dumont we had a real sandrail with an 1835 engine. At 16 it was a true Rocket Ship and the huge drag slicks would take me to the Top of dumont with a little planning.

  11. So Sperry to Dumont from Western Talc is in decent shape. Some route finding, washouts, and a little water. Rangers were at the dunes, checking for helmets, reg, etc. Nice ride. If you did Sperry before, it's def worth a trip.

  12. Hi, this is Paul from Mojave Mining Company & Tecopa Hot Springs Campground & Pools. Not sure if dunes are open. Haven't talked to BLM. We do have access as a mining company and it is bad, bad at Little Dumont. If Dumont is going to be open only through Sperry Wash access, we have camping at https://tecopahotspringscampground.com and a 2 acre lot with 24 hr surveillance just off of Furnace Creek Road north of Old Spanish trail for parking of OHV trailers an launch point for OHV. We are putting this together as a contingency plan. Would like to work with you guys to put a plan together that works for Tecopa and the Dunes. This is devastating to our business as well. Contact me at ptbarnes@mojaveminingcompany.com Thanks!

  13. Here are some new pics flying South to North this time. It was disappointing that I didn't see a single worker, tractor, any sign of clean up or repairs being made between Baker and Dumont. Hwy 127 is not going to open up any time soon. It's been almost 2 weeks since the rain hit and no work has started.

  20. Everyone PLEASE be aware of the dangers at the dunes even in your own camp. The possibilities of something horrific can be possible should scare you all as this reality came true for my 3 year old daughter and the rest of my family. All I'm saying is to be overly cautious and do what you can to be safe and block off your camp so nobody can come through your camp and bring havoc into your life. We all just need to always practice being safe dunners so we can continue to enjoy the dunes and our family's that we bring along with us. I apologize for the original posts. I was angry that someone could do this to my child or any living being for that mater and then take off with out a care in the world. PLEASE BE SAFE OUT THERE.

  25. Just arrive in daylight and keep your eyes on the ground and go quick. Plenty of hard packed areas and lots of soft sand too. If you get stuck, post here and one of us will yank you out.

  26. You can get to plenty of decent spots. You just need to avoid the soft areas or keep you momentum. The hardest packed area is off to the left as soon as you get up the hill from the entrance road. When you see the ranger station on your right, hang a left into the camp area.

  27. Totally, just wanted to clarify in case Dumont gets a Red Flag or Fire Watch. Personally I have never looked into either for Dumont nor do I know historically if it has ever been given. Thanks again!

  28. Lifting of the fire ban is great news! Thanks for passing this along. Also, it looks like camp fires are still banned when under a Red Flag Warning or Fire Weather Watch.

  29. Well said DUNEFREAK. New to the forum but not to Dumont so thank you for having me. I'll be headed out there tomorrow with my son. No better way to be "quarantined" and get your mind clear for awhile. Stay safe friends!!

  30. Under don’t lose your pup... I use Garmin alpha dog system based on GMRS radio. It’s totally off grid system with 9 mile range. It’s also a full featured gps and training collar . I have owned it for about 2 years - it has worked well at the dunes, other places . I have a 19 month old active Labrador.

  38. We had a blast doing it this year, we ended up with the most bags collected as a group, our group then awarded me to be the holder of the plaque and then one of our group won the free pass for next year and gave it to me for getting them involved. We will be back next year for sure and I plan on donating some Subway goodies for the raffle...

  39. Haha! Great write up! I still remember using photo's on a lap top and looking at the background scenery to find the location of the South Pole! I wish the military mail box was still maintained! I thought that was a great idea! Love the new South Pole! Great job Regulators!
